We’ve called it the Buffalo Bill for years but we probably shouldn’t get into how it got that name. I started doing this submission from the bottom out of necessity because I had a very flexible training partner and I couldn’t get the finish from kesa gatame without risking injury. So I would just drop to my side to allow for an extended range of motion. This evolved into being able to catch if from the bottom and eventually into a sweep. I still think it’s a dumb ass move that should only be used in an emergency when you’re tired and only have the gas for one more last-ditch effort.
